You Got a Callback. Now What?
First: congratulations. A callback means the audition team saw something they want to see again.
Now your job is pretty simple: find out exactly what they’re asking you to prepare, do the work, and come back ready to make adjustments.
A callback isn’t a casting decision. And it isn’t an invitation to completely reinvent what you did the first time. It’s another opportunity to show them who you are, what you can do and how you work.
They already liked something. You don’t need to start over. You need to be ready for what comes next.
Okay. What Do You Do Now?
Read the callback instructions carefully. Find out what they want you to prepare, when and where you need to be, and whether anything has changed from the first audition. Don’t assume the callback will work exactly the same way.
Prepare anything new. You may receive new music, sides, scenes or other material. Give the new material the same thoughtful preparation you gave your original audition.
Keep what worked. Unless they specifically ask for something different, don’t completely rebuild your original material. You got the callback for a reason.
Be ready to adjust. They may ask you to try something differently, work with another performer, sing again, read another scene or make a new choice. That isn’t a sign you did something wrong. They’re learning more about you and seeing how you work.
Come prepared. Then stay flexible.
