AUDITION PREPARATION
Your Audition Day Checklist
Audition day already comes with enough to think about. The goal of this checklist is simple: take care of the little things ahead of time so you can spend less energy worrying about logistics and more energy doing your best work.
You don't need a perfect audition day. You just want to arrive prepared, settled and ready to perform.
Night Before
- Gather your audition clothes and shoes.
- Pack your headshot and résumé, if required.
- Organize your sheet music or confirm your backing track is ready.
- Put any forms, sides or other requested materials together.
- Confirm the audition location, arrival time and how you're getting there.
- Review the audition instructions one more time.
- Get some sleep. More last-minute rehearsal is not always better rehearsal.
Before You Leave
- Eat something and drink water.
- Warm up your body and voice without wearing yourself out.
- Get dressed and make sure you can comfortably move in what you're wearing.
- Check that you have everything you need.
- Leave enough time to arrive without feeling rushed.
When You Arrive
- Check in and follow any instructions you're given.
- Find the restroom, waiting area and audition room if appropriate.
- Keep your materials organized and easy to grab.
- Stay reasonably quiet and aware of what's happening around you.
- Do a light physical or vocal reset if you need one—this isn't the time for a full second warm-up.
Before You Walk In
- Put away your phone.
- Have your music, sides or other materials ready.
- Take a moment to settle your body and breathe.
- Remind yourself of your starting position and your first moment.
- Focus on the work you've prepared—not on guessing what the audition team wants.
- When they call you, walk in ready to work.
The goal isn’t to eliminate every nerve. It’s to be prepared enough that your nerves don’t have to compete with everything else.
